According to Executive Chairman Jacob Peled, the company has increased substantially its size and its turnover, since the implementation of a program to establish new business partnerships three years ago. Peled said, “We decided we wanted to invest in companies that have something new or fresh to offer and ColorService was one of them.”
ColorService attended the Expo this year for a third time having first exhibited in 2014 as a newcomer to the tire industry, with a live demonstration of its automatic weighing and dosing system for small chemicals, which was shortlisted for Tire Manufacturing Innovation of the Year in TTI’s 2016 Awards (see page 56).
“That partnership is mainly focused on know-how and technology,” said Peled. “ColorService’s technology was already well established in the textile industry but the company wanted to enter the rubber market. The combination of the two companies seemed perfect and since the collaboration started we have sold 42 units together, and hopefully by the end of this year as many as 55. We are also hoping to purchase shares from the current owner.”
The ColorService weighing and dosing system is now installed with companies like Toyo, Trelleborg, Dunlop, BKT, MRF, Continental, Bridgestone and more.
Elsewhere, Pelmar Group and Hanch, a manufacturer of tire building equipment in China, recently introduced to the market a new agricultural and OTR tire building machine, which took around two-and-a-half years to develop. The equipment is installed at several facilities in India, the Czech Republic and soon in the UK.
In addition, in collaboration with Akar Makina, a Turkish manufacturer of retreading machinery, Pelmar recently developed a state-of-the-art pre-cure tread press (PCP). The system has reportedly received interest from a large tire manufacturer for purchase of a machine, with four other systems already in operation.
Peled, who hopes that refurbished equipment will become more widely accepted in the industry, reports that business is also thriving for Pelmar Group in terms of its reconditioned equipment sales. He says, “Our best capability is taking old machines, such as calenders, extruders and mill room equipment, and completely renewing them with new components. At the show I met with our contacts at a top tire maker, which recently purchased a refurbished calender for an East European plant, and they are very satisfied.”
